What Is Public Policy Analysis?

Charles Maurice Stam earned his bachelor’s degree in political science and history from Columbia College in New York. As a student and shortly after graduation, Charles M. Stam developed his interest in political science via a fellowship with a prominent non-partisan political policies nonprofit organization, as well as an internship and employment at a public policy analysis firm.

Public policy analysis examines the policies enacted by government officials and generates an understanding of their implications on society and the economy. An analyst may be enlisted to research and generate statistics in order to make recommendations and help create policies that make a real impact.

The job may require gathering an early picture of how citizens view a problem or learning about a problem that has recently emerged. Combining opinions and statistics, the analyst then formulates or suggests a policy that addresses the problem. Policy makers then use the data to create the solutions we often see.
